Working with call centers from every time zone imaginable, I have found myself wondering whether I will ever get to meet the people on the other end of the Skype line.

As proof that the world is an unusually small place, I got the opportunity to meet one of these people this weekend. My man Ray, who owns a call center in the Philippines, called to tell me that he would be gone for a few hours to take his wife to the airport, “she is actually coming to the United States,” he informed me.

“Will she be coming to L.A?” I inquired.

He didn’t know at the time, but after returning from the airport Ray let me know that his wife would be landing in L.A. at 5 PM the next day. “She is bringing you a T-Shirt I sent, and will be inviting you to her fundraiser this weekend…I hope you don’t mind.”

“Of course I don’t mind!”

So Saturday night I went to the fundraiser and met Mick, Ray’s wife and the head master of a private school in the Philippines that provides free education, health care and food to over 500 students.
