I found this article in this mornings Wall Street Journal amazingly ironic. For years people have been trying to keep Starbucks out of their communities, but now that Starbucks has announced plans to shutter 600 locations, communities have taken up the fight to keep them in.
It’s fascinating how corporate power houses can become so woven into the fabric of our lives that we find ourselves not only depending on them, but revering them as well.
In my own supremely uncool way, I have always been a fan of Starbucks. Although the company has taken a massive hit in recent months (SBUX), the Warren Buffet/Benjamin Graham in me says its a good long term investment.
